Early Skills for Living and Learning Handouts

The Early Skills for Living and Learning Handouts provide ideas for parents and teachers to use with children in the early school years to support the development of functional skills.

The ideas are designed to be implemented in everyday routines and there are sections which can be individualised to meet the specific needs of a child and their family. It is recommended that the handouts are used in consultation with an occupational therapist or another professional with experience with working with children.

Funding for development of these handouts was kindly provided by Non-Government Centre Support (NGCS). Natasha Cox, Occupational Therapist was appointed as the Project Officer to develop the handouts and is the principal author. There has been significant consultation with an expert panel of Occupational Therapists: Rachael Fallows, Fiona Kemp, Tarryn Laver and Susan Peirce, and other occupational therapists in the DOT (WA) community.

Special thanks to Andrea Brown, Occupational Therapist and Artist, who provided the beautiful handout illustrations. Thanks also to the professionals and friends who contributed by providing feedback.

Please ensure that the disclaimer is provided with each handout, which is on the second page of each PDF document.
